Harry Potter is one of my favorite series for many various reasons. One of the reasons is that it provides with many different characters and stories, which are unique. I think this is why it was successful, J.K. Rowling provided with complex stories, that intertwined and one could get a better idea of the characters, while other series are just focused on 2-3 characters. BO-RING! Some characters are more loved in HP series than the others, but there are few more characters that deserved more love in my humble opinion. In this blog post I want to talk about Kreacher.

A little bit of reminder for those people who forgot about this house elf. Kreacher was an aged house elf, who served the Black family. While, most people know Black family through Sirius, there was a younger brother, Regulus Black, who served Voldemort for a little while and then he died. People who have read the books, know that Regulus was not only a Death Eater, he was also loyal to his family and wanted to protect them. More about him I’ll write later on. Yes, I love his character too.

Kreacher is what he has been made by wizards, Harry. Yes, he is to be pitied. His existence has been as miserable as your friend Dobby’s. He was forced to do Siriu’s bidding, because Sirius was the last of the family to which he was enslaved, but he felt no true loyalty to him. And whatever Kreacher’s faults, it must be admitted that Sirius did nothing to make Kreacher’s lot easier.—Dumbeldore

Why do I love Kreacher?

While Dobby was loved and shown both in the movies and in the books as this adorable house elf, Kreacher didn’t get the same amount of love and acceptance, especially in the movies. Kreacher was first shown in “Harry Potter and the Phoenix of Order”, he is the bad elf who tries to keep his mistress Walburga Black’s belongings from being destroyed by Sirius. Kreacher was exceptionally loyal to the Black family, not only because it was in his DNA, but also that Regulus Black was treating him well and I will go further and say that he loved Kreacher.

Then in the 6th book, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” Kreacher starts to work in Hogwarts with Dobby and Harry asks Kreacher, along with Dobby to follow Malfoy and find what he is doing. While Kreacher is hesitant to do his job, because Malfoy is a pure blood wizard, he still does it, regardless of his will. Harry had Dobby, he could totally spare Kreacher doing this task, knowing how he doesn’t want to do it. Hermione, out of all the characters was the ethic one. She treated everyone equally and her S.P.E.W (The Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare) was something I would sign up in a heartbeat. In addition, Kreacher was the meanest towards Hermione and she still wasn’t mean to him. When you think Hermione couldn’t get any better, she gets even better!

And finally in the 7th book, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” we find out that Kreacher was the one who went with Lord Voldemort to the Crystal Cave and forced him to drink the potion, which as a reminder made Albus Dumbeldore weak. Voldemort forgot that Kreacher was asked by his master Regulus Black to come back, even though he was in pain and in the hands of Inferi, he disapparated and came back to tell Regulus what Voldemort was up to. After that he and Regulus went back to the Crystal Cave, Regulus drank the potion and told Kreacher to destroy the Slytherin’s necklace and then died in the hands of Inferi. Kreacher tried everything in his abilities to destroy the necklace, but it was something he couldn’t do for his favorite Master. After Harry finds about Kreacher’s suffering, he gifts the fake Slytherin necklace to Kreacher,  Kreacher sobs uncontrollable, because it reminded him of his favorite master. Also, he was the one who captured Mundugus Fletcher to Harry Potter (the thief who stole the original Slytherin necklace from the Headquarters and basically gave it to Dolores Umbridge!). During the Battle of  Hogwarts, Kreacher with his necklace comes  and fights with everyone else. Ok, couldn’t producers include this bit in the movies?! It mattered  to me. I wanted everyone to see how awesome Kreacher was.

Fight! Fight for my master, the defender of the house-elves! Fight the Dark Lord, in the name of brave Regulus! Fight!”,- Kreacher

I wish he was shown more, not only his backstory with Regulus, but also his change towards Harry Potter and the company! My wish will remain a wish, since the movies are done, but I want through this blog post, to give some love. I love him as much as I love Dobby and just all the house-elves in the books!

In conclusion, Kreacher is a bad-ass house-elf!
